The 49th FIS was located at L. G. Hanscom Field, Bedford, MA (near Lexington, MA)

49th Fighter Interceptor Squadron 49th FIS converted from the F-80 to the F-86F in February 1953, then to F-86Ds in February 1954, though a number of F-86Fs remained until December. 49th FIS then re-equipped with F-86Ls in October 1956 (the first unit to do so), before again re-equipping with F-89 Scorpions in 1959 (acquired when 49th FIS moved to Griffess AFB, swapping with 465th FIS). Bases: Dow AFB ME to 5th November 1955, then Hanscom AFB MA until 1st July 1959, moving to Griffiss AFB NY. Detachments: Yuma AFB 13th August to 13th September 1953 (gunnery), 14th February to 2nd March 1956 (rocket). Assignments: 4711th ADW, to 4707th ADW on 5th November 1955, 32nd AD on 16th June 1956, Boston ADS on 1st August 1958, 4727th ADG on 1st July 1959, Syracuse ADS on 15th October 1959.
